Installing a Flexible Shower Adapter

If only everything in life were this simple: For about $25, you can buy a flexible shower adapter kit and transform a showerless bathroom into one with a shower. The kit includes the flexible shower hose and a tub spout with a hose outlet on the bottom of the spout. You replace an existing spout with the new one, attach the flexible shower hose and head and suddenly you have an instant shower. Some kits don't adapt to older spouts, so this trick may not work for everyone, but it's a quick fix that's worth investigating.
If you are going to do this, read the directions included with the shower adapter kit to become familiar with the parts and installation steps. Then, follow these steps to install a flexible shower adapter:
1.         Turn off the water at the main supply line.
2.         Remove the old tub spout by twisting or unscrewing it. Wrap a rag around the spout to protect it while removing it
3.         Find the adapter hose outlet on the bottom of the new spout. Thread the hose coupling onto this threaded stub, and then use an adjustable wrench or locking-type pliers to tighten it.
4.         Stand in the tub and locate the showerhead hanger so that is casts a fine spray at the correct height. Hold the flexible hose up to the wall and mark the best location for the holder. The hose is stored in the holder and it should be able to be lifted freely.
5.         Mark the location for the holder with a washable marker and then insert wall anchors into holes. Secure the holder with the screws provided. To attach the holder in a ceramic tile wall, use an electric drill with glass and tile bit, masking tape, masonry anchors.
6.         Insert the shower hose in the holder.
